Enzyme Mimics

This team design molecules which mimic the structures and behaviour of natural enzymes as catalysts, vaccines and medicines. Among the peptides designed included those which mimic aldo-keto-reductase (AKR)’s active site for asymmetric aldol reactions to obtain high yield and enantioselectivity of products, deamine oxidase as bioreceptors to measure the level of histamine as well as peptides which mimic the binding conformation of native α-enolase with the ability to bind to Protein Arginine Deiminase (PAD4), a protein found in high levels in arthritic patients.
